Job Purpose
To deliver proactive professional support and guidance to Valley Group's Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Manager, contributing to the effective implementation and continuous improvement of HSQE practices.
The Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Apprentice will actively engage in tasks related to safety compliance, quality assurance, and environmental management, fostering a culture of safety and excellence within Valley Group. Through collaboration and dedicated effort, the incumbent will assist in the development, implementation, and enhancement of HSQE policies, ensuring the organization's commitment to maintaining a safe, high-quality, and environmentally responsible working environment.
Responsibilities
Safety Compliance:
- Collaborate closely with the HSQE Manager to conduct thorough safety inspections and audits within the established HSQE framework.
- Assist in crafting and implementing safety protocols and procedures, ensuring alignment with HSQE standards.
- Demonstrate diligence in monitoring and enforcing compliance with local and industry-specific safety regulations under the guidance of the HSQE Manager.
Incident Reporting and Investigation:
- Work in tandem with the HSQE Manager to swiftly report and comprehensively document all safety incidents.
- Actively participate in incident investigations, providing valuable insights within the established HSQE structure.
- Support the HSQE Manager in devising and executing preventive measures based on insights gleaned from incident investigations.
Quality Assurance:
- Collaborate with the HSQE Manager and the broader operations team to implement and oversee quality control procedures.
- Conduct regular and meticulous quality inspections, contributing to the continuous improvement initiatives within the established HSQE framework.
- Assist in identifying and rectifying deviations from quality standards under the guidance of the HSQE Manager.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant health, safety, quality, and environmental regulations, working closely with the HSQE Manager.
- Aid in developing comprehensive compliance strategies within the established HSQE structure.
- Ensure meticulous adherence to legal requirements under the mentorship of the HSQE Manager.
Training Delivery:
- Assist the HSQE Manager in planning and executing health and safety training programs for Valley Group employees.
- Collaborate with HR and the HSQE Manager to guarantee comprehensive delivery of HSQE training across all levels of the organization.
- Evaluate the efficacy of training initiatives within the HSQE framework and recommend improvements as needed.
Emergency Response:
- Actively participate in emergency response drills and exercises as an integral member of the HSQE team.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of emergency response plans in collaboration with the HSQE Manager.
- Provide adept support during actual emergency situations as directed by the HSQE Manager within the established HSQE structure.
Policy and Procedure Development:
- Contribute insights to the development, review, and enhancement of HSQE policies and procedures under the guidance of the HSQE Manager.
- Ensure seamless communication and implementation of policies throughout the organization within the HSQE framework.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to align policies with operational practices under the mentorship of the HSQE Manager.
Documentation Management:
- Work closely with the HSQE Manager to maintain meticulous records of HSQE documentation, including incident reports and inspection records.
- Assist in developing and managing document control processes within the established HSQE structure.
- Ensure accessibility of documentation for audits and reviews under the guidance of the HSQE Manager.
Collaboration:
- Foster collaboration within the HSQE structure to seamlessly integrate HSQE practices into daily operations.
- Serve as a conduit between employees and the HSQE Manager, addressing concerns and providing guidance as needed.
- Cultivate an environment of open communication regarding safety and quality matters within the established HSQE framework.
Continuous Learning:
- Stay abreast of industry best practices and advancements in HSQE, sharing acquired knowledge with the HSQE team.
- Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities, including relevant training programs and workshops.
- Work closely with the HSQE Manager to disseminate learnings throughout the organisational structure, ensuring continuous improvement.
Communication:
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders on HSQE matters, ensuring clarity and transparency.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations for the HSQE Manager and leadership within the established HSQE framework.
- Facilitate efficient communication channels for employees to raise safety and quality concerns, with guidance from the HSQE Manager.
Risk Assessment:
- Conduct thorough risk assessments within the HSQE structure to identify potential hazards to health, safety, and quality.
- Collaborate closely with the HSQE Manager and relevant teams to develop and implement robust risk mitigation strategies.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of risk control measures under the guidance of the HSQE Manager, ensuring continuous improvement.
As an integral member of the Valley Group's HSQE team, the Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Apprentice, under the mentorship of the HSQE Manager, will assume crucial responsibilities spanning Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ). This role involves active participation in safety-related incident review meetings, facilitating safety training schedules, and contributing to initiatives aimed at fostering employee health and well-being.
In the realm of environmental stewardship, the trainee will collaborate on in-depth impact analyses and engage in cross-functional projects designed to mitigate the company's environmental footprint. Furthermore, the trainee will play a pivotal role in conducting internal quality audits, tracking key performance indicators, and participating in workshops geared towards continuous improvement.
Collaborating closely with the HSQE team, the trainee will contribute to refining document control systems and disseminate incident data and analysis findings. This collaborative approach ensures alignment with Valley Group's unwavering commitment to excellence in health, safety, quality, and environmental practices. Through these multifaceted responsibilities, the HSQE Trainee will actively contribute to shaping a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement within the organization.
Knowledge
- Basic understanding of health, safety, and environmental principles.
- Awareness of common workplace hazards.
- Familiarity with local HSQE regulations and standards
Qualifications
Minimum of Scottish National Qualifications (SQA) at Level 5 or above, particularly in subjects related to science, technology, engineering, or vocational training.
Skills
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with peers and supervisors. Comfortable engaging in group discussions and presenting information.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Basic analytical skills to identify and address simple problems in the HSQE domain. Willingness to learn and apply problem-solving techniques.
- Computer Literacy: Proficiency in basic computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office applications.
Willingness to learn and adapt to new HSQE software tools.
